We worship the triune God, revere scripture and rely on Christ’s sacrifice alone for our salvation. Our mission is summed up in Jesus’s words in the Great Commission and the Great Commandment:
Statement of Faith
Melbourne Community Church is unified in the belief that there is one infinitely powerful and perfect God who makes Himself known to humanity in three separate and distinctive persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. He created all things, both seen and unseen.
We believe human beings were created in the image of God and were made to enjoy a personal relationship with Him, but were separated from His holiness through disobedience to His commands.
We believe that Christ the Son was sent to Earth by God the Father to rescue humanity and restore our relationship with Him. Jesus was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born to a virgin, and was both fully man and fully God. He lived a sinless life and suffered a torturous death on a cross to atone for our sin. We believe He came to life again and proved His resurrection by showing Himself alive to His Apostles and followers. He then ascended into heaven to take His place with God the Father.
We respond to His love for us by declaring ourselves His followers, disciples of His teaching and listeners for His Holy Spirit, expecting changes to our lives and recognizing that all the power and glory belongs to Him, the Living God.
We choose to follow His will as revealed in His written word, the Bible, which was inspired and revealed to human authors by the Holy Spirit. We are united with other believers in faith that Christ has atoned for and forgiven our sin, and has prepared a place for us to live with Him for all eternity.
MCC Distinctives
We routinely present the Gospel in a manner that is approachable for non-believers.
We offer a warm and welcoming church experience and invite all who are willing to accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.
We are devoted to worship and believe it is a key component of our Sunday service.
We prioritize our children and are committed to creating an atmosphere where they can learn about Jesus in a fun, engaging environment.
We are committed to fellowship and connect with one another outside of Sunday service in small groups, Bible studies, and other events.
We seek to make disciples of Christ, promoting Bible study, prayer, and community.
We remember Jesus’ sacrifice by offering the sacrament of communion to all believers at each Sunday service.
We indulge the needs and preferences of young families. Children of any age are welcome to sit with their family at our Sunday service.
We are a non-denominational church. Our policy is to not have a policy for secondary matters of faith (see Statement of Faith for what we consider to be primary matters of faith). We are accepting of a diversity of opinion on secondary issues.
We cherish God’s Word and study the Scriptures each Sunday and during weekly Bible studies. We primarily study books of the Bible verse-by-verse to seek wisdom and application for our lives today.
When studying challenging passages of Scripture, we often present multiple possible interpretations to the congregation.
We consider the style of biblical literature when attempting to interpret a given passage. We have often leveraged How to Read the Bible for All Its Worth (Fee and Stuart) to help us in this endeavor.
We embrace humor as a means of increasing congregational engagement and modeling the joy we feel as believers.
We recognize that our primary citizenship is to the Kingdom of Heaven and we treat other allegiances and preferences as secondary concerns. As such we strive to be apolitical in our communications and studies.
As ambassadors of our faith, we reflect the love of Christ in our everyday lives. We are careful with our words and actions. We practice servant leadership in our Christian walk. We act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with our God.
We give generously of our time, talent, and treasure in the furtherance of His Kingdom.
We support missions and benevolence and use at least 10% of our budget to help spread the gospel to the ends of the Earth and to help those that do not have the means to help themselves.
We are an elder-led church who serve together as a team. We do not have a lead pastor with more authority than the other elders.
We recognize that all of us are sinners in need of a savior. We do not single out certain sins as more egregious than others.
We recognize that Christ’s victory over sin and death is assured and that He will build His church. Our response to His calling is “yes, Lord.”
